This course allows for a deeper understanding of the Psychology which underpins many vital aspects of our students’ lives – equality issues, emotional development, sense of self, gender issues and language acquisition. A deeper exploration of these topics will undoubtedly benefit the pedagogic skills of teachers in the classroom when dealing with 21st Century

  About the Course  
  What does the course involve?  
The format for a Hibernia College Online Summer Course is as follows: 
  • 5 fully interactive lessons complete with audio, links and exercises to complete
  • A moderated discussion forum to answer course-related questions, share you experiences with your teaching colleagues and communicate with your facilitator
  • Reflective Learning Log where you reflect on your understanding of the course and how you will use it in your day to day teaching
  • Completion of a course gives 3 EPV Days.  Your individual entitlement for EPV days should be checked with the DES.
  • A course is expected to take 20 hours to complete
  • Each course has a facilitator who will be in contact with you regularly and whom you can contact by email with any queries before or during the course

Patricia Timoney completed her M.Sc in Educational Psychology from Queens University Belfast in 1986. For 10 years, she worked as a secondary school teacher, mainly as a Guidance Counsellor before setting up her own practice as an Educational Psychologist.  She now works part time mainly assessing children who are presenting with learning or behavioural difficulties, advising parents and teachers.

Dr Brian Mac Giolla Phádraig holds a B.Ed., Dip Ed., M.Ed. Dip. Psych and a Ph.D. His research interests include special education, promoting partnerships and educational psychology. He is a primary school teacher and a school principal.
