The Health, Stress and Coping course examines health psychology and its application in dealing with stress. Coping methods and processes for dealing with and responding to stress are also covered.
Teachers are faced, every day, with the consequences of society’s fast-paced and modern living. Schools are, in general, expected to be the panacea for society’s ills, and teachers are also expected by certain groups within society to be magicians in providing miracle cures for society’s shortfalls.
All of these factors bring stressors into school-life, and the classroom. Teachers, as human beings, need to learn to recognise, address, manage and cope with these realities as well as providing meaningful, holistic and responsible learning environments for their students.
This course addresses the management skills vital for personal health and survival in schools and its objective is to facilitate teachers in addressing their health, stress and well-being in a modern classroom and school setting.
