                                ...among Adults and Children in Schools

Hibernia College are pleased to deliver this new course for primary school teachers this year.

This course will look at all aspects of bullying in the primary school, both among the children and between adults in the school. Teachers will be encouraged to examine their own behaviours with a view to improving them, and they will be helped to recognise their own role in creating and maintaining a positive school environment. The course will present a proactive approach to resolving and preventing bullying.

  About the Course  
  What does the course involve?  
The format for a Hibernia College Online Summer Course is as follows: 
  • 5 fully interactive lessons complete with audio, links and exercises to complete
  • A moderated discussion forum to answer course-related questions, share you experiences with your teaching colleagues and communicate with your facilitator
  • Reflective Learning Log where you reflect on your understanding of the course and how you will use it in your day to day teaching
  • Completion of a course gives 3 EPV Days.  Your individual entitlement for EPV days should be checked with the DES.
  • A course is expected to take 20 hours to complete
  • Each course has a facilitator who will be in contact with you regularly and whom you can contact by email with any queries before or during the course

Jacinta M. Kitt, N.T., M. St., is a Lecturer\Researcher and an Organisational Advisor on creating and maintaining a Positive\Effective Work Environment and on awareness and prevention of Workplace Bullying. She lectures part-time in Trinity College on contemporary issues in management. She provides training for various public and private organisations on the characteristics, skills and benefits of appropriate management practices. Her primary area of interest is interpersonal relationships in the workplace and their impact on the effectiveness of the organisation. Providing strategies for improving how we interact with each other at work is the focus of many of her workshops in schools, colleges and other organisations. Her Masters Thesis had Workplace Bullying as its theme and she is an acknowledged expert on that subject. She has appeared on radio and television, she writes articles and conducts conferences and seminars on the subject. She is also currently writing a book.

Mairéad De Búrca

Mairéad De Búrca qualified as a primary teacher from Mary Immaculate College of Education. After twenty years in the classroom, she returned to studying, completing the Postgraduate Higher Diploma in Learning-Support from U.C.C. in 2002, and going on to complete a Doctoral degree, also with U.C.C. in 2005.

Mairéad tutors in Special Education and Philosophy of Education for Hibernia College. She is a firm advocate of life-long learning and views the internet as a fantastic opportunity and tool for learning, particularly for people whose committments might not otherwise allow them to participate in further education. She is delighted to facilitate this course on bullying, seeing it as a timely and vital course for teachers.
